What is a Phobia?
A phobia can be described as an internal anxiety triggered by an external source, this source can be either directly related or symbolic to the phobia.
Phobia's explained
If a person at some time in their life was to experience a situation that produced intense emotions and feelings the human mind has the ability to repress or hide the experience from the conscious mind, thus a person would have no or very little knowledge of the experience ever happening.

The mind then bottles up these emotions and feelings and after a period of time from it develops a phobia, it is almost a protection system against something that once caused intense emotion or feeling.
Unfortunately in our adult years suffering with a phobia can reduce the quality and enjoyment of life considerably.

An example
At one point in a persons life they were lost in a huge crowd, this caused intense emotion (panic, sickness, fear etc) it is then possible that in years to come they develop a phobia of crowds (demophobia), it is the mind telling the person not to enter crowds, if they do not enter they can not get lost.
What is the difference between Fear and Phobia?
In most cases the two can be separated by the emotions attached, a dislike of flying can be a fear, a person fears the worst to happen, they dislike the feeling etc. Should a person suffer with intense emotion and psychical effects that are uncontrollable such a sickness, sweating, trembling etc then this is a phobia.

What is anxiety?
Anxiety is developed when a person feels apprehensive, worried or uncertain about things or problems within their life. Danger can produce anxiety and if unattended rapidly turn to fear, causing a natural reaction within the mind to either take flight or stand and fight.
If left untreated for a length of time anxiety can have a detrimental effect on the health of both the body and or mind.
